You see people who get all these free things like clothes, cleaning products, shoes and other big items. Sometimes even a car. Do people recieve gift cards to go to their local store to get the item, or do the take the items directly home with them? I would think that would be hard with clothes because of sizes. What if there is not a store where the live that carries the item?As for the cars I would guess the go to a dealership to get it. And what about taxes? Do they have to pay taxes for all items or just the big ones like cars?

My cousin was on Price is Right and won some prizes. Based on his experience, I'll tell you what I can. He was given the choice of taking home the actual items that he won or their cash value. He took some items home and received cash value for others. You have to pay a "gift tax" for the amount of prizes received. I don't know the percentage.

The products they can take home with them they do, but for the bigger items like cars, etc. it is just like you thought. They pay taxes on everything that is over a certain dollar amount like the cars just like a winner on a game show would.

As for Oprah giving away cars and Pontiac paying the taxes that is NOT true. There was a big deal made of it that the people didn't expect to be paying the taxes.

I've always wondered that too..

I think they only need to pay taxes for big things like cars and houses and large amounts of money.

Things like clothes, I would think you'd tell them your size and they mail them to you.

I think unless you see someone on the show hand the prize to the winner then they mail it to them.

depends on the show.... when oprah gave the cars away on her show, pontiac took care of the taxes on the cars not oprah.

game shows you pay a tax on the prizes.

and on "what not to wear", you have to pay taxes on the all of it that you get. you would think the person that nominated you does... be careful of free $5000.00 gift cards with your name on it. lol (great show though)
